The Public Safety Division was established in 1973 to provide professional law enforcement and occupational safety programs for the Augusta University. In 2013, Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University merged to form Georgia Regents University. Both universities' police departments were also consolidated. In 2016, Georgia Regents University was renamed Augusta University. The division was re-organized in 2018 to Augusta University Police Department. Today, the department is a multi-divisional organization. The Police Department reports to the Office of the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration, and maintains jurisdiction on all Augusta University property. 
The men and women of the Police Department are dedicated to service excellence through partnerships that reduce crime and create a safe and secure community environment in which Augusta University may achieve its mission of education, research, and patient care.
The Augusta University Police Department is committed to delivering quality service to our community in an effective, responsive and professional manner. The Police Department provides leadership, security, enforcement, and many other services to meet the needs of the Augusta University community.
The department is joining the Pink Patch Project this year.
We are dedicating this year's fundraising to our very own Georgia Cancer Center, to help them continue the fight, and be a Catalyst for Change
