The Sioux City Police Department is located in the northwest corner of Iowa at the intersection of Iowa South Dakota and Nebraska. The department provides law enforcement services for a population of 86,000+ residents .
The department routinely participates and No Shave November projects to fund local cancer initiatives. In 2019 the department decided to do a separate breast cancer fundraiser that would be run by female officers on the department.
Together with a pink badge project, officers will be raising money for a local charity of their choosing. But funds will be specially directed to breast cancer awareness and prevention. We have determined the recipient of funds from our project to be  all proceeds going to “Caps 4 Courage” this organization will provide a beautifully decorated gift box to the cancer survivor at their first radiation or chemotherapy treatment.  Included in the box will be an inspirational (unisex) style hat, a letter to the patient from another cancer survivor, a hand-painted stone and other items.   The patient will be able to select their cap color and the nurses will hand the gift box to the patient.   These boxes will also be made available for purchase by friends and families to order items and have them sent to cancer survivors anywhere.
