Newtown Police Department

The Newtown Police Department (NPD) has announced that for October 2024, NPD will be participating in a program for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Pink Patch Project (#PinkPatchProject) was started in 2013 by the Seal Beach Police Department in Southern California when officers wore a pink patch on their uniforms during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In 2015 the Irwindale Police Department in California took the idea and sold their own pink patches to the community, raising over $20,000.00 for one of the nation’s largest cancer centers, the City of Hope. The Los Angeles Police Chiefs Association then took the idea to 25 other local California agencies growing the project. As of 2024, the #PinkPatchProject has over 900 agencies worldwide including police, sheriff, fire, EMS, and federal departments.

The program centers on a pink versions of an agency’s uniform patch. These patches have been specially designed by each participating agency specifically for the #PinkPatchProject campaign. Employees of the Newtown Police Department may wear these pink patches on their regular uniforms for the entire month of October during “Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”

The pink patches are intended to stimulate conversation with the community and to encourage public awareness about the importance of early detection and the on-going fight against this disease. Individuals can support awareness by purchasing the NPD Pink Patch.  All profits of NPD Pink Patch sales will be donated locally to the Norma Pfriem Breast Cancer Center in Bridgeport as a result of the #PinkPatchProject.

This form may be completed with selection of quantity and delivery options, then mailed to or dropped off with payment at the Newtown Police Department. Patches may be ordered from May 1^st through June 10th, and will be delivered during Breast Cancer Awareness Month of October.
