The Orland Police Department is pleased to announce official participation in the 2017 Pink Patch Project public awareness campaign. They join over 30 other public safety agencies in bringing attention to the fight against breast cancer and supporting cancer research organizations in combating this devastating disease.?ÿ
Originating in Southern California, the Pink Patch Project is a collaborative effort between the Public safety agencies throughout the state. It centers on vibrant pink versions of uniform patches that are specially designed by participating agencies. Officers wear these pink patches on their uniforms in October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to show their commitment and support of the program. With participation from police, sheriff, fire, EMS and federal agencies, it is quickly becoming an international initiative.?ÿ
The pink patches stimulate conversations with the community and encourage public awareness about importance of early detection and treatment in the fight against breast cancer. In addition to public education efforts, the additional goal of the program is to raise funds from the sale of Pink Patch Project items to fund research, treatment and education needed to support those battling this disease.?ÿ
Orland Police Chief J.C. Tolle commented, “At the Pink Patch Project, we are thrilled about the expanding participation and increasing enthusiasm in our fight against breast cancer. What started out as a local Southern California initiative has become a national program, and it is very rewarding to be a part of this meaningful public service campaign. We feel compelled to leverage public safety’s position in the community in the fight against breast cancer, as many among us have personally been impacted by this powerful disease.
